Thank you for visiting Material Pleasures and taking the time to find out more about us.
The business is owned and managed by Barbara and Graham Crompton. Barbara is a quilter with a lifetime’s experience of both quilting and training. These skills have now been combined to create Material Pleasures where we offer you exciting fabrics from well-known brands, useful accessories and a range of original, personally-designed kits and patterns that quilters will love.

We welcome beginners to the crafts of patchwork and quilting in all sorts of ways. We offer special kits and packs, workshop groups and lots of one to one advice. If you want to have a go but don’t know where to start just contact us and we’ll help get you going.

Material Pleasures trades globally online 24/7, at Quilters’ Guild events and craft and stitching events. We can provide a trade stand at your group meetings, exhibitions or other stitching-related events in the Manchester/Merseyside/Cheshire areas and beyond. Please use the contact form to enquire.

Workshop Groups

Penketh Beginners

The new beginners’ workshops at Penketh are now well under way. There is one place available in some of the session, so please contact us if you are interested. See below for the coming workshops.

Murdishaw Community Centre, Barnfield Ave. Murdishaw, Runcorn, WA7 6EP – The ‘Nimble Thimbles’ meet on Monday evenings 6.45pm – 9.15pm each fortnight. Places now available. This is an ongoing, informal series of workshops and meetings that can be joined at any time. This group encompasses sewing of any kind so whether you are into patchwork, quilting, embroidery, cross stitch, beading, dressmaking or anything else that you can think of to use a needle for then come along and join us. Sessions are £3 payable in advance. See below for current programme:

Frodsham Community Centre , Fluin Lane, Frodsham, WA6 7QN

The Frodsham Quilting Bee meets on the first Saturday of every month and is open to new members of any level of experience including beginners. This is a learning-focused group that follows a structured project over two or three sessions. Sessions are £8 payable in advance and run from 10.30 – 3.30.

The Wednesday Quilters operate on the same guidelines and meet on the second Wednesday of every month 10.30 – 3.30. These sessions are £7 payable in advance. This group is currently full because of lack of space and are looking for a new venue. If you are interested in this group, contact me and I can let you know as soon as places are available.

Because of holidays etc. the next group meeting will be October 13th .

Frodsham Beginners – sessions are all stand alone and you don’t need to have any prior knowledge to join in. Places are still available.

Bridge Quilters – is a group that is open to all levels of experience from the complete beginner to the most experienced which welcomes new members on an ongoing basis. They meet on the first Thursday of each month in Runcorn at the Heath Methodist Church, OxfordRoad, Runcorn and on the third Thursday in Widnes at St. Paul’s Church Hall in central Widnes (just behind the library).

Kits

Create Your Own Quilt Kit

Love making quilts but hate the cutting out? We can help. You can create your own quilt kit using fabrics from our shop. Just choose the design you like – this may be a design that we already feature or a traditional block that you would like to make a quilt from, then choose the fabrics. Or perhaps you love a fabric but don’t know what to do with it. Let us know what your ideas and choices are and we’ll come up with some design ideas for you to choose from and then work with you to get the kit you want.

The resulting quilt will be entirely unique to you. The only part you won’t have done is the cutting. Your quilt will go together quickly and easily with none of the stresses and strains that inaccurate cutting can cause.
